The Machines

When I started this design, I had a complex idea using a lot of different elements that I hoped would tie together neatly in the end. As I started laying everything out, I discovered that I didn’t need the majority of what I had worked on. The design pulled itself together and I was forced to scrap all of the supporting sketches I created. I won’t complain however, as I’m happy with the direction this one has gone. Mechanical March was created using the Forza Motorsport 7 design editor and applied to the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR.

A lot of work went into building elements for this composition that will never be seen. After creating a number of designs in Forza, I’ve learned that you should never fall in love with individual elements until you’ve got everything laid out in front of you. Mechanical March was certainly that kind of learning experience. On the side of our Lancer, a cold wall of humanoid machines glare at the viewer. Behind that wall of machines is a pattern of dots. The dots appear to radiate from the machines as if they were a visual representation of their collective thought. An indecipherable machine language that doesn’t really need translation. Just look at their eyes! On the hood of the car is a machine face with a suspicious hole in the wall behind it. On the rear of the car, four machines are bunched together, closing in on the object of their pursuit.

The final layer count for Mechanical March is 1,465. This design is up and ready for download in Forza Motorsport 7 and Horizon 5. If you are downloading Mechanical March in Horizon 5 you can find it using the share code 553071399. Be sure to hop on the game (or games) and drop a like to show your support for my work. I’ve got more on the way so check back soon for the next post.
