Painted Hail

Sometimes I’ll identify a car that I want to paint in Forza before I have a design idea in place. Other times the concept for a design will develop before I’ve picked a car to work on. Lucky Hail Sled falls into the second category. This one started off as a couple of sketches in a pocket-sized drawing pad. I didn’t know the exact car I was designing for, but I knew my canvas needed to be somewhat unassuming. No flashy sports cars. No giant trucks or gaudy looking SUVs.

I knew the name of my design, and the title told me I was looking for a brick. I needed a sledgehammer on wheels and I found it in the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S. As I worked on Lucky Hail Sled, two lines from Kanye West’s song “Dark Fantasy” were looping through my head: “Then the sky filled with herons, I saw the devil in a Chrysler LeBaron”. I had to follow through with the idea at that point or risk a serious earworm infection. The earworm told me I was on to something. I obeyed.

On the hood of our Mercedes sits a grinning devil’s head shrouded in flames. The side of the car features more of those grinning devil heads, a smoking cauldron, a pitch fork wielding attendant and lots of flames. The imagery on the car’s hood and side plays far less scary than the description would imply. The final layer count for Lucky Hail Sled is 1,598. This design is up and ready for download in Forza Horizon 5. You can find it using the share code 368647838. Be sure to hop on the game and drop a like to show your support for my work. I’ve got more on the way so check back soon for the next post.
